Benton Harbor teen sentenced to 40-80 years for 2021 murder

ST. JOSEPH, Mich. (WNDU) - A Benton Harbor teen could spend the rest of his life in jail for shooting and killing another teen.

Royal Robertson was 14 years old when he shot 17-year-old Quwang-Tri Jones and left him to die.

According to our reporting partners at The Herald-Palladium, this happened after Roberston invited Jones and a few others to play basketball near his home in October of 2021.

A Berrien County judge sentenced Robertson, now 17 years old, to 40-80 years in prison with a chance for parole.

At the time of the murder, Robertson was on a GPS tether for previous crimes, and it placed him at the scene of the shooting.
