(WNDU) - More than 2,600 teddy bears will be delivered to children across five area hospitals throughout the week as part of South Bend International Airport’s annual “Bears in the Air” event.

The airport said the bears offer companionship and smiles when a child is going through a difficult time.

Over the last 14 years, the “Bears in the Air” program has provided over 25,000 teddy bears to kids in need.

The airport made its first delivery on Monday afternoon to children at Corewell Health Lakeland Hospital in St. Joseph.
