LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE/Gray News) – A child in Kentucky was killed in a hit-and-run crash Sunday, according to authorities.

The Louisville Metro Police Department said officers responded to the Iroquois neighborhood around 3 p.m. for the report of a vehicle collision on Taylor Boulevard.

At the scene, police said they found a crash involving several vehicles.

Officials investigated the scene and collected witness statements. They determined a car had been driving north on Taylor Boulevard near Iroquois High School at a high speed when the driver ran off the shoulder of the road and hit a utility pole.

Police said the car crossed all lanes of Taylor Boulevard after hitting the pole before hitting another car that was driving southbound.

This crash caused the second car to hit a third vehicle parked off the road.

The driver and passenger of the first vehicle left the scene on foot before officers arrived, according to police.

EMS took a woman to a hospital, where she is expected to recover.

A young child was taken to another hospital, where officials said she sadly died from her injuries.

Following the investigation at the scene, officers were able to find the driver, a juvenile male, nearby, and he was taken into custody. His charges are pending.

The police department said the passenger who fled has not been found yet.
