Hiker takes human remains to Goodwill drop-off box before notifying police
ANDERSON, S.C. (WHNS/Gray News) - Officials in South Carolina said a man found human remains while hiking. However, instead of notifying police immediately, he brought the bones to a Goodwill store.
The coroner said a man was hiking in the woods and found the bones around 10 p.m.
According to an incident report, the man told police that he found a box at the Goodwill drop-off and put the seven bones inside, WHNS reported.
He then took the box of bones to the Anderson Police Department to notify law enforcement of his findings.
The coroner said investigators went to the location where the bones were found around 7 a.m. on Sunday and completed a search of the area where they located several more bones and items.
Officials stated the bones appeared to have been in the area for a long time and were scattered in a large area.
The skeletal remains haven’t been identified and will require further investigation including DNA analysis which could take several months, according to the coroner.
