WALTERBORO, S.C. (WHNS/Gray News) - A monkey in South Carolina who had escaped from its habitat Friday morning has been captured, according to animal services.

The Colleton County Animal Services said the monkey, a 15-year-old Japanese Macaque named Bradley, had lived in the area for almost six years.

Bradley’s owner was trying to capture him near Mallard Street.

Video circulating on social media appears to show the animal on top of a shed.

The Colleton County Sheriff’s Office was also contacted on Friday to help assist the owner after efforts to capture the monkey were unsuccessful.

Residents were told not to approach the animal and to keep an eye on pets when outside in the area.

“There is a primate on the loose that could be stressed and we ask you to not approach it,” deputies wrote in a post.

On Sunday, animal services released a statement regarding the situation, saying they received numerous tips regarding Bradley’s whereabouts. However, they also said people who were aware of the escaped monkey via social media were hampering efforts to capture him.

They also asked anyone who saw him to contact them.

Fortunately, officials said Bradley’s owner was able to capture him Monday.

Officials thanked the community for its efforts to help get the monkey back to its owner.
