Teen drowns trying to swim to shore in quarry lake

AURORA, Ohio (WOIO/Gray News) - An Ohio teenager drowned while swimming in a quarry lake in Ohio, according to first responders.
The 15-year-old, whose name was not publicly released, was reportedly struggling to swim to shore at a quarry in Aurora on June 11, according to a 911 call.
The Portage County Water Rescue Team was called to help with the search. Rescue divers later found his body about 10 feet underwater and 25 feet from shore. He was found two hours after the 911 call was placed.
While his name was not released, the teen was confirmed by the Bedford City School District to be a 10th-grade student at Bedford High School.
“Our thoughts are with the student’s family, friends, classmates, teammates, and all those affected by this loss,” a district representative said in a statement the next morning.
