Family finds woman’s body after investigating ‘suspicious gray bag,’ police say

ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV/Gray News) - Authorities in Missouri are investigating after they said a woman’s body was found inside a tote bag Sunday afternoon.

According to the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, officers reported to the 4900 block of Harney Avenue in St. Louis around 12:30 p.m.

The officers said a body had been found, and homicide detectives and the medical examiner’s office were contacted for further investigation.

Officials determined the person found dead was a woman but her identity is not known.

KSDK reported the body had been found by a family after they investigated what they said was a “suspicious gray bag” in the street.

Nearby residents said they had noticed the bag sitting at the location for a while but never thought to look inside.

The medical examiner’s office is working to determine a cause of death.
