South Bend Cubs ready for home opener tonight

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - It’s time to play ball! The South Bend Cubs are gearing up to brave the cold and take the field tonight.

The Cubs will welcome the Peoria Chiefs to Four Winds Field, which is still undergoing a $48 million renovation, to kick off a six-game homestand.

While you’re going to have to bundle up tonight, there’s a lot to to look forward to if you head out to the ballpark.

“I think the biggest thing is just opening day, just to see people out,” says South Bend Cubs Team President Joe Hart. “Just get people to come out here, see those renovations, see people smiling again. That’s why we do what we do. It’s all about the entertainment, giving people a good time.”

Our team has been out at Four Winds Field all day getting you ready for tonight’s home opener. You can learn more about the progress on the stadium renovations from South Bend Cubs Owner Andrew Berlin in the video below:

Berlin also talks about opening day excitement and the story behind the man throwing out tonight’s first pitch:

If you’re interested in the team itself and its on-field expectations this season, Hart dives into that with our Emma Bratt:
