UPDATED: Victim identified in South Bend shooting

An 18-year-old man is injured after a shooting in the 1100 block of West Western Avenue, near Arnold in South Bend, just before 11:30 p.m. Saturday night.

Police confirmed the victim's identity as David Pruitt.

South Bend Police were called to the scene after a Shot Spotter alert.

When officers arrived, they did not find a victim on scene but did find property damaged

Later, Pruitt walked into Memorial Hospital with a gunshot wound in the back and was taken into surgery shortly after, dispatch confirmed.

Pruitt sustained a potentially life-threatening wound and is in critical condition, police said.

The victim was taken to an Indianapolis hospital for treatment.

From the investigation, officers learned there was a party in the area at the time before there were several shots were fired.

South Bend Investigating Bureau is investigating this incident.

At this time, police are speaking to witnesses to identify a possible suspect or suspects.
