Man charged in aggravated battery at Epworth Center appears in court

A man accused of attacking his roommate at a South Bend psychiatric hospital will be in court Tuesday.

Jake Brunette is charged with battery and strangulation. He is accused of severely injuring his roommate at the Epworth Center in June.

The incident seems to stem from the last time the two were patients at the center. Brunette reportedly told someone the victim used an epithet against him at that time.

A witness said the victim was bleeding from his mouth and had swollen, bloody eyes after the attack,

. The victim also showed evidence of having been strangled.

A judge ordered Brunette to take a third evaluation. His next court hearing is set for Dec. 13.
