There are concrete plans for new development in the New Carlisle industrial park.

In fact, a concrete mixing firm called Ready Mix wants to spend $2 million to build a plant on the southeast corner of Edison and Walnut Roads.

Some say the plant could even help bring more development to the area.

“We know that the energy center had a lot of concrete that was used when we rebuilt Walnut, and some of the other roadways all that's going to be done in concrete,” says Bill Schalliol, director of economic development for St. Joseph County. “So, to have that use right there in the middle of the park is going to be a huge asset for us.

“We really think it will bring opportunities to lower construction costs for not only us, but also for other tenants in the park,” he adds.

The concrete plant is expected to create up to 25 new jobs.
