SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - On Friday, Mayor James Mueller rolled up his sleeves with volunteers for a cleanup in South Bend’s District 4 around Coquillard Park on the city’s northeast side.

It was part of the Vibrant Neighborhood Initiative, which targets illegal dumping, blight and environmental hazards.

The event was the city’s fifth cleanup since September, and the second one in the month of October.

“it’s great to see the pride in the neighborhood, the folks coming out to make sure that their neighborhood is vibrant,” Mueller said. “That’s what it takes — it does take community and a neighborhood coming together to make it what it needs to be.”

This marked the last cleanup for 2026, but the mayor said efforts should resume in late March.
