Flu shots are available across Michiana. Here’s what to know
You can get the shot at doctor’s offices, pharmacies and mobile clinics
SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - It’s flu season!
Doctor’s offices are stocked with the vaccine so residents can minimize their risk of ending up in the hospital.
According to Dr. Abigail Battjes at Saint Joseph Health System, getting an annual flu shot has also been shown to decrease risk of heart attack and stroke.
Battjes explained why it’s important to get the latest variant of the COVID and flu vaccine each year.
“Because the strains or variants change every year,” Battjes said. “When they come out with those shots, they have now made them so that they are, hopefully, more better to hold on, cover those strains better and offer more protection.”
Battjes said its’s recommended to get the flu vaccine between September and October so it lasts through the whole flu season.
It is safe for people with egg allergies to get their flu and COVID shots, according to Battjes.
The flu shot is available at doctor’s offices, pharmacies and mobile clinics across Michiana. Doctors said that getting the shot before the flu surge is key, as shots take about two weeks to fully kick in.
