South Bend Medical Foundation urges blood donations amid nationwide shortage
Donation events scheduled this week as O blood type supply drops to two-day limit
SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - The South Bend Medical Foundation (SBMF) is calling on community members to donate blood immediately as a critical nationwide shortage impacts local supplies.
The foundation is currently operating on a critically low two-day supply of O-positive (O+) and O-negative (O-) blood types.
To encourage donations, SBMF is running a “Give a Pint, Get a Pint” promotion: everyone who donating blood during these drives will receive a voucher for a free pint of Culver’s custard.
The foundation is hosting two upcoming blood drives in South Bend:
- Wednesday, Aug. 19 | 5:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. Location: Bloodmobile on-site near the entrance at 501 W. South Street, South Bend (at South Bend Cubs game).
- Thursday, Aug. 20 | 12:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Location: Downtown South Bend at The Gibson Insurance (202 S. Michigan Street).
While walk-ins are welcome, organizers strongly prefer that donors schedule an appointment in advance to help manage flow and ensure a smooth process. To sign up and secure your time slot, visit www.GiveBloodNow.com
