Indiana Gov. Braun declares state of disaster emergency for 63 counties, including several in Michiana
Declaration follows flooding, severe weather and tornadic activity across state
INDIANAPOLIS (WNDU) - Indiana Gov. Mike Braun has declared a state of disaster emergency for 63 counties due to recent flooding, severe weather and tornadic activity.
The declaration includes Elkhart, Fulton, Kosciusko, LaGrange, LaPorte, Marshall and St. Joseph counties.
The state of disaster emergency will be in effect for 30 days and allow the Indiana Department of Homeland Security to provide financial assistance to impacted families who have eligible expenses under the State Disaster Relief Fund program.
“Many Hoosier communities were impacted by the severe weather that swept through our state this week. This emergency declaration ensures that every available state resource is mobilized quickly to support response efforts, help local governments address urgent needs, and help Hoosiers recover,” Braun said in a news release.
