MISHAWAKA, Ind. (WNDU) - A horse ran loose this morning along the Bypass, and the community came together for the animal in need.

According to South Bend Police on Facebook, several people called St. Joseph County 911 about the animal’s welfare.

Several men had already stopped and help coral the horse when authorities got to the scene.

The animal was surrounded and offered hay to help the horse stay calm during the situation.

Authorities eventually used their patrol vehicles to escort the group, helping them safely walk the horse off the Bypass.

The horse was reunited with its owner, thanks to coordination from both law enforcement, and the community.
