ELKHART, Ind. (WNDU) - As the country celebrates its 250th birthday, organizations and groups around the area are continuing to find ways to commemorate the occasion.

Thursday the Elkhart County Quilt and Fiber Experience is celebrating the “America 250 Challenge.”

The expo invited participants to submit different entries using various needle techniques to celebrate the nation’s birthday.

Those works were on display and took the form of quilts both small and large. The quilts featured a patriotic theme with red, white, and blue, colors, along with other special touches.

“250 is all about red, white and blue. And so, it was everybody’s own personal interpretation. So, we have needle point, we have knitting, we have a lot of quilting, we have big quilts, we have little quilts. It was everyone’s own take on what I can make that maybe is going to be around 250 years from now that my family will have,” said Mary Ann Lienhart Cross an Elkhart County Quilt and Fiber board member.

The expo, which is located at the Elkhart County Fairgrounds, also features vendors, workshops, and demonstrations.

The event runs today until 7 p.m. and will continue Friday from 9 a.m.- 4 p.m.
