South Bend Cubs win home opener 5-1 over Beloit Sky Carp

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - The South Bend Cubs defeated the Beloit Sky Carp 5-1 in their home opener at newly-renovated Four Winds Field Tuesday evening.

The Cubs were scheduled to open the season at home earlier this month, but all three games were postponed due to unplayable infield conditions.

Starting pitcher Brooks Caple struck out nine over 5.2 innings to improve to 2-0 on the season.

Owen Ayers went 2-for-4 to lead the Cubs on offense. He hit a two-run home run in the first inning, his third of the season.

South Bend has won four consecutive games and is 5-2 on the season.

The Cubs will host Beloit again Wednesday evening. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
