Notre Dame quarterback Steve Angeli has entered the transfer portal
SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - Notre Dame quarterback Steve Angeli has entered the transfer portal.
Angeli, who is currently a junior, was in a quarterback competition with freshman C.J. Carr and sophomore Kenny Minchey.
Coach Marcus Freeman said that he wanted to boil that competition down to two players for the fall.
Angeli must have been told that he was not going to be one of those two.
Both Carr and Minchey played better than Angeli last weekend during the annual Blue-Gold Game.
Angeli had the most game experience between the three. He started and played well in Notre Dame’s win in the Sun Bowl against Oregon State in 2023. Then, last year in the College Football Playoff Semifinal against Penn State he came in for an injured Riley Leonard in the first half and led the Irish to a field goal that changed the momentum of the game. Leonard returned in the second half and Notre Dame went on to win 27-24.
Angeli had 504 yards passing, seven touchdowns, and one interception in 2023. He had 268 passing yards and three touchdowns in 2024.
He still has two years of eligibility left and will likely get some offers in the transfer market.
