What you should do if you’re stuck in a pileup crash
(WNDU) - We want to share some news you can use in light of Monday’s 17-vehicle pileup crash on I-94 in southwest Michigan.
That crash got us thinking: what should you do if you’re stuck in a pileup crash?
Michigan State Police are sharing some guidance on that tonight.
First, don’t panic. Remain calm and know that help is on the way.
Second, stay in your car. It might seem counterintuitive, but you have a higher risk of being hurt if you get out of your car. Keep your seatbelt on and wait patiently for first responders.
Only get out if there’s an immediate danger, such as a fire or risk of explosion. In that case, get as far from the car as possible and get behind a guard rail so you’re our of the road.
You should also turn on your hazard lights, if possible, to alert other drivers to the crash scene.
