Buchanan Community Schools install cameras on buses to ensure school bus safety
BUCHANAN, Mich. (WNDU) - Our team is digging into school bus safety.
We’ve heard from many parents across Michiana who said that they’re worried about reckless driving near bus stops.
School buses are statistically the safest way for kids to get to and from school, but kids are in the most danger when getting on and off the bus.
By law, you need to stop when you see those stop arms and flashing bus lights.
Buchanan Community Schools in Michigan have a non-stop camera on their buses, and drivers can press a button to report drivers who don’t follow the law.
“It’s a huge ticket, it’s a fine, you don’t want any of that, but the biggest thing is that you don’t want to hurt anybody, you don’t want to hit anybody, you know, cause a traffic accident,” said Kelly Laesch, deputy crime prevention coordinator for Berrien County.
This is a reminder to slow down and be cautious when you see those flashing lights in the dark early mornings.
