White House confirms President Biden and the First Lady will visit South Bend today

SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - The White House confirms that President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden will visit South Bend today.

According to a schedule from the White House Press Office, the president and First Lady will make their way to South Bend from Joint Base Andrews in Maryland just before 1 p.m. No estimated time of arrival in South Bend was given.

The schedule says the Bidens will leave South Bend and head back to Maryland just before 5:30 p.m. No other details on their visit to Michiana were given.

Earlier this week, multiple sources told WNDU 16 News Now that law enforcement officials throughout St. Joseph County were preparing for a potential presidential visit this weekend.

A couple of those sources told us it’s for a wedding or a reception, and that it doesn’t appear to be a political-related event.

According to a notice by the FAA, a VIP Movement Notification has been issued for today in South Bend.

Another source told us a plane landed just after noon on Thursday at South Bend International Airport, consistent with what usually takes place ahead of a presidential visit.
