South Bend Cubs break ground on renovations at Four Winds Field
SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - The city of South Bend is celebrating the start of some major league renovations at its minor league baseball stadium.
A groundbreaking ceremony was held on Tuesday morning to mark the beginning of a $48 million stadium improvement project at Four Winds Field that promises to bring more people downtown over the next several decades.
New seats are being installed, the construction of a second deck has begun, and a new natural playing field is in the works at the ballpark. Additionally, the Kids Fun Zone, along with a new and relocated splash pad, will be built this offseason.
South Bend Cubs owner Andrew Berlin says he’s excited to finally see these stadium improvements come to life, and he says they’ll be a win-win for everyone involved.
“It’s good for business,” Berlin said. “I like things just looking beautiful. The ballpark has been beautiful, but it’s going to get more beautiful. Today is a magnificent day, I’m excited.”
An estimated time of completion has not been announced, but the team says it is a multi-year improvement project.
