Man accused of stuffing his son’s body in a freezer dies before case goes to trial
HENRY COUNTY, Ala. (WTVY/Gray News) - An Alabama man accused of stuffing his son’s body in a freezer has died before his case could go to trial.
Court records show Michael Shane Halstead died on July 7.
Michael Halstead and his wife Karen Tysinger Halstead were charged with corpse abuse and manslaughter after authorities found their son’s body in a freezer behind an area home last year.
The couple had reportedly moved but left their 19-year-old son Logan Halstead behind.
Logan Halstead had suffered prolonged health issues, according to court records.
Attorney Arthur Medley has since filed a motion to dismiss the charges against Michael Halstead following his death.
Houston County Judge Kevin Moulton has scheduled a hearing for the motion in August.
According to court records, Karen Halstead’s case is currently set to go to trial in December.
