Pres. Trump says US allies making a mistake on Iran

WASHINGTON (Gray DC) - Tuesday, American allies rebuffed President Donald Trump’s request for their help in the Iran conflict. President Trump told Gray Media’s White House correspondent Jon Decker that NATO is making what he called “a very foolish mistake” by not offering more support in the conflict with Iran. At the same time, the President said the U.S. war effort is going very well and there’s no need for NATO’s help.

During an Oval Office press interaction marking St. Patrick’s Day and with Ireland’s Prime Minister Micheal Martin by his side, the President said the U.S. and Israel have effectively destroyed Iran’s navy, its air force and its air defenses.

But one of the world’s most important oil shipping routes, the Straits of Hormuz, remains essentially closed to all oil tankers and that has driven up the cost of oil worldwide.

JON DECKER, WHITE HOUSE CORRESPONDENT:

“What’s your timeframe, Mr. President, for when cargo ships can safely go through the Strait of Hormuz?”

PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP:

“Ah, it won’t be. I don’t believe too long. We’re knocking the hell out of the coast. It’s basically the coast and the water. And, it won’t be too long. And the, the, Middle Eastern states, including Israel, by the way, who has been terrific. The Middle Eastern states have been helping us a lot.”

Meanwhile, at the same event, the President also said his planned summit in Beijing with Chinese President Xi Jinping is being postponed will now take place in about five or six weeks. The president noted the reason for the delay is the ongoing war in Iran.
