Sanitation worker shocked to find suspect who fled police hiding in garbage bin

HUBER HEIGHTS, Ohio (WOIO/Gray News) - An Ohio sanitation worker got quite the surprise when he found a suspect who fled from police hiding in a garbage bin he was about to load onto his truck.

Huber Heights Police initiated a traffic stop Monday, but after the car came to a stop, the driver fled on foot. The officer briefly lost sight of the suspect and began searching for him.

A sanitation worker in the area opened a trash can to load it into the garbage truck and found the suspect inside. Dashcam video of the incident shows the worker’s shock as he staggers back from the container.

The worker quickly alerted officers, who were searching the street nearby, to the suspect’s location.

Police say the suspect, who they nicknamed “Oscar the Grouch,” fled on foot a second time but was taken into custody a short time later.

No one was injured in the incident.
