WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (WDBJ/Gray News) - One dad in North Carolina spent his first Father’s Day celebrating the health of his new triplets.

At just 8 weeks of pregnancy, Isaac and Mackenzie Flippin found out they would be welcoming not one, but three babies to the family.

“A lot of people tell us they’re like, ‘y’all probably knew you was going to have a chance of having triplets!’ and we’re like, no,” joked Isaac Flippin.

After 20 weeks into the pregnancy, Mackenzie was admitted to the hospital, WDBJ reported.

“At first it was very overwhelming, just not knowing what the next day held,” said Isaac Flippin. “We came in at 24 weeks. We didn’t know if we’re gonna have to deliver one or if we’re gonna lose one of them. So it’s been very overwhelming, and I guess it’s kind of felt like a blur at the same time.”

A few weeks later, they welcomed their babies River, Ridge and Wrenlie, two boys and a baby girl.

“It’s all been nerve-wracking, but I think we finally have made it to the stage where we can breathe a little bit better,” said Isaac Flippin.

The triplets are still in the hospital, but the new parents said they are happy to say the babies are healthy.

“We can pretty much hold them and mess with them anytime we want, for the most part. There’s still a lot of cords and beeping and dinging, but it’s got a lot more fun whenever we get to come and visit them now,” said the new father.

Isaac Flippin said he’s excited to take them home and to just be able to be with them all the time.

The couple’s excitement is growing as they’re planning to bring the triplets to their home in Virginia.
