Deputy dies after her squad car was struck from behind by truck

WATERMAN, Ill. (WIFR/Gray News) - A five-year veteran of the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office died following a crash on Thursday night in Waterman, Illinois.

Investigators said 35-year-old Deputy Christina Musil was killed after her Ford Explorer squad SUV was hit from behind.

According to Illinois State Police, the crash occurred Thursday at around 10:40 p.m. on Illinois Route 23 near Perry Road.

Troopers said Musil was parked on the shoulder when a commercial truck ran off the road and hit Musil’s squad car.

She was taken to a hospital where she died from her injuries.

The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office said Musil served in the corrections and patrol divisions. She also served in the Army National Guard as a military police officer for four years and served in Afghanistan from 2008 to 2009.

Funeral arrangements for Musil are pending. Illinois State Police is continuing to investigate the crash.
