A torn American flag still hanging outside a Mishawaka home caught WNDU’s eye after it was shredded by wind and weather. The discovery happened during a jog, when WNDU Chief Photojournalist Don Schoenfeld spotted the flag — battered, but still flying. WNDU tracked down the flag’s owner, Ashtin Galletti, who said he keeps a flag raised as a small but steady tribute to his grandfather, a Navy veteran who taught him the value of service and sacrifice.

Several popular beaches in LaPorte County are under water quality advisories for high bacteria levels. Stone Lake, Kiwanis-Teledyne Park and Upper Fish Lake all list high bacteria levels as the reason for the advisories.

A man was taken to the hospital and another was arrested after a crash involving a horse-drawn buggy Tuesday afternoon. The crash happened around 2:30 p.m. at State Road 13 and County Road 24, about a mile south of Middlebury.

Indiana Michigan Power is extending its suspension of disconnecting residential customers’ power due to nonpayment through the weekend. The extension is due to high heat. I&M said it wants to “keep their customers and employees safe during these hot temperatures and having safe and reliable power is key to ensuring that happens.”
