SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - South Bend International Airport has launched a new app designed to help with accessibility at the airport.

It’s called GoodMaps. It offers real-time guidance for all travelers.

A team of surveyors from GoodMaps scanned the airport and created an indoor map of the building.

It also gives step-by-step routing to avoid stairs and escalators and find elevators.

WNDU 16 News Now spoke with Kevin Kline from GoodMaps. He said he lost his sight seven years ago.

“I know that I can navigate an indoor space as long as I have the right tools to do so,” Kline says. “You know, being able to walk into a space and not just ask someone for help, being able to go on your way, being able to go to the restroom on my own, grab a snack, go through security, things of that nature. So, it really just makes it so it’s an even playing field for everyone.”

The app has 18+ languages and is free to download from the iOS: App Store or Android: Google Play Store.

According to airport officials, South Bend International Airport is the first airport in Indiana to launch the app.
