GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WNDU) - A Benton Harbor man is facing nearly 14 years behind bars after a shootout at the River Terrace apartment complex parking lot last summer.

According to the U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Michigan, 29-year-old Terrence Turner was sentenced to 165 months in prison for being a felon in possession of a firearm following the shootout on July 9, 2023.

Turner’s sentencing comes a month after 26-year-old Shamonte Buchanan of Benton Harbor was sentenced to nearly six years in prison for his role in the shootout.

During the shootout, an apartment across the parking lot was struck five times by gunfire. Officials say a bullet entered a bedroom where an occupant was, and there was also a young child in the apartment.

Turner was charged after an investigation culminated in a search warrant at a residence where he was staying with a gun. As a convicted felon, Turner was prohibited under federal law from possessing firearms.

Turner pled guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm back on Jan. 10.

At his sentencing, the judge also imposed a period of three years of federal supervised release.
