SB Cubs star pitcher Preston Morrison promoted to Myrtle Beach

South Bend starting pitcher Preston Morrison has been promoted to the Myrtle Beach Pelicans while pitcher Jose Paulino has joined the Cubs.

Morrison appeared in 17 games with South Bend including 16 starts posting a record of 9-4 with a 2.24 earned run average over 92 and a third innings.

The right-hander in June was named the Chicago Cubs minor league pitcher of the month after going 4-1 with a 0.83 ERA in five starts.

The TCU product leaves South Bend tied for the Midwest League lead with nine wins and second in earned run average at 2.24.

Morrison was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the eighth round of the 2015 Major League Baseball Draft.

Paulino joins South Bend after six starts at Short Season Eugene in the Northwest League.

The left-handed pitcher went 4-0 with a 0.51 earned run average. Paulino in 35 innings allowed only 19 hits and two earned runs while walking three and striking out 37.

Paulino was signed by the Chicago Cubs as an international free agent in 2011.

The South Bend Cubs face the Peoria Chiefs in a doubleheader at Four Winds Field Monday starting at 1pm(ET).

Carson Sands was placed on the disabled list retroactive to July 18. The left-handed pitcher has started 14 games with a record of 7-2 with a 4.66 ERA.
