Early Wednesday morning, a Bremen police officer observed a female passenger hanging out the window of a vehicle, screaming for help.

The vehicle was stopped on the 900 block of West Plymouth Street.

An investigation determined that the female passenger and her two-year-old daughter were abducted from a residence on Benham Ave. in Elkhart by an acquaintance.

The suspect was transporting the victim and child to an unknown destination.

The suspect, 21-year-old Jesus Hernandez of Elkhart, was arrested on a complaint of kidnapping, domestic battery, carjacking, operator never licensed, and child endangerment.

He was incarcerated at the Marshall County Jail. The formal charges are pending a review by the Marshall County Prosecutors Office.

Newscenter 16 spoke to Hernandez's family. They say the victim is Hernandez's ex-girlfriend. Hernandez had a falling out with his family and moved out of their home, but his ex-girlfriend was still living with the family.

Hernandez and the woman had an argument Tuesday night, according to his mother. The Elkhart County Sheriff's Department confirms it responded to a call for "refusal to leave" on May 13.

Hernandez's mother said she heard commotion outside of her home early Wednesday morning but was unsure what happened to the woman.

The family called Elkhart County Police later that morning to investigate the woman's whereabouts.

Eventually, Elkhart County Police got word that the Bremen officer located the missing woman and her child.
