Woman dead after fleeing from police in stolen car

A police pursuit came to an abrupt halt when the getaway driver died in a high speed crash.

Around 8:30 a.m. Sunday, Niles police tried to pull over a stolen Chevrolet pick-up truck, but its female driver took-off.

A short pursuit crossed into Cass County where the suspect crashed off Yankee Street near Almaugus Drive.

The woman, who's name has not yet been released, was pronounced dead at the scene.

No other injuries or damage was reported.

The Niles City Police Department was assisted at the scene by Michigan State Police, the Cass County Sheriff's Department, the Berrien County Sheriff's Department and Howard Township Fire Department.
