Warsaw man running for Indiana House faces felony DUI charge

A Warsaw man running for the District 22 Indiana House of Representatives seat is facing a felony charge for driving drunk.

Michael Stinfer, 34, is running as an independent candidate.

According to our reporting partners at The Elkhart Truth, Stinfer was arrested in Elkhart County in April and charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated and endangering a person.

Then, on August 16, he was pulled over again and found to be inebriated.

Warrants for his arrest were issued Tuesday by the Kosciusko County Prosecuting Attorney's Office.

One charge is for a misdemeanor of driving under the influence. The second is a felony charge of the same offense because re-offending after a first DUI conviction is automatically considered a felony according to Indiana state law.
