The South Bend driver who ran his car, head on, into a police cruiser, was driving on a suspended license. The accident happened about ten o'clock Wednesday night on Sample Street near Arnold.
33-year old Walter Smith was eastbound when his car drifted into the westbound lane, and struck the police car. Smith was arrested for leaving the scene, and driving while suspended. Police are still awaiting the results of blood tests, to see if alcohol was involved. The officer involved, 27 year old Anthony Dertz, was not seriously injured.
