NILES, Mich. -- The Cass County Sheriff's Department is investigating a fatal crash that killed a 23-year old Mishawaka woman.
It happened Saturday, July 26, just before 10 p.m. on M 60 Highway, near Yankee St. in Howard Township.
Police said Austin Brouwer, 19, was driving himself and three others in a vehicle heading north on M 60 at a high speed when he attempted to pass another vehicle on the right side of the road.
Brouwer lost control of his car, struck another vehicle, and then flipped over several times on the grass median.
Brouwer was taken to Memorial Hospital where he was last listed in serious but stable condition. But not all the passengers fared as well.
Rayna DoBrodt, 23, from Mishawaka was sitting in the back passenger seat of the car. She was taken to Niles Lakeland Hospital after the crash and later died.
Front seat passenger, Janet Menting, 21, from South Bend was air lifted to Memorial Hospital in South Bend where she was last listed in critical condition, and back seat passenger, Scott Voreis, 21, also from South Bend, was taken to the hospital and released.
Police said alcohol was not a factor in the crash and everyone in the car was wearing a seat belt.
The driver of the second vehicle was treated and released from a nearby hospital.
Friends, family remember Rayna

Her sister, Cidney, writes, "She taught me what a big sister should be like and how they should care and love their siblings. She stuck up for me, loved me no matter what and was my best friend... I love you Rayna and I miss you so much."
Rayna's cousin, Katy, says, "She [Rayna] is one of the most beautiful people I know inside and out. She was always so happy and fun to be around."
And her co-worker, Cassie, tells us, "Every time I would walk into work and see her face, I knew it was going to be a great night. I can't believe she is really gone."
