Propane tank damaged during South Bend robbery

A 500 gallon propane tank was damaged and began leaking during a robbery in South Bend on Saturday.

After finding the propane tank leaking, an employee at Concrete Asphalt Recycling called 9-1-1 around 5 a.m. Sunday morning.

Police say that the robbery took place sometime between 8 p.m. Saturday night and 5 a.m. Sunday morning.

Tools were rummaged through and the thieves stole first aid supplies and a CB radio.

Police say they also pried open an excavator and drove it around before hitting the propane tank, which then began leaking.

Fire crews were able to clean up the leak shortly after it’s discovery.

Although there were no witnesses present, police did find and collect fingerprints from the scene.
