The Elkhart County Prosecutor's Office, along with Elkhart Community Schools and Concord Schools encourages families to sign up for a fun day of three-on-three basketball the day after Christmas.
The second annual, "Teaming Up for Kids 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament" is a charity event focused on the local community, schools, law enforcement and fire departments. Through a day full of basketball and friendly competition, officials hope to foster positive community relations.
"We've all heard of problems in that regard, in regard of community support of law enforcement. So this is a way that these organizations and these kids can come out and show support for law enforcement and what they do on a regular basis," said Elkhart County Prosecuting Attorney, Curtis Hill.
Last year, the event was a "great success" according to Hill, with over 300 spectators and participants. They're anticipating even larger crowds this year.
Thanks to donations from sponsors and a partnership with the Community Foundation of Elkhart County they gave away two, $500 scholarships, to a boy and girl participating.
Divisions start with the third and fourth grade levels and go all the way up to adults. Referees will officiate the games and trophies will be awarded to the winning teams.
But this isn't a 'drop off your kids' event, Hill encourages families to stay a while, watch their children and members of the community come together and play.
Concord Schools and Elkhart Community Schools are helping host the event, but it's open to anyone in the area who wishes to sign up and compete.
How to sign up:
The event will take place Saturday, December 26, at 9 a.m. at Concord High School gymnasium.
Registration forms can be found at www.teamingforkids.com and must be post-marked by December 19, 2015 and received prior to the event.
