Police make big drug bust on I-94

One person is behind bars Friday night after an ordinary traffic stop on I-94, led to the discovery of an extraordinary amount of drugs by Michigan State Police.

Around 10:30 Friday morning, a state trooper pulled over an SUV for weaving out of his lane near mile marker nine in Chikaming Township in Berrien County.

When he searched the vehicle the trooper found approximately 160 pounds of marijuana hidden inside duffel bags.

The 36-year-old driver, who was from Chicago, was arrested and taken to the Berrien County Jail on a charge of possession with intent to deliver.

The suspect's three-year-old son, who was also found inside the SUV, has since been placed with relatives, with the help of child protective services.

Over the course of the last two weeks, this same team of Michigan State Police Troopers has seized more than $250,000 of suspected drug money, and a kilogram of heroin valued at more than $100,000.
