The Elkhart County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a crash involving a motorcycle and a vehicle.

It happened on Sunday at 7:45 p.m. on CR 6 in Elkhart.

An Elkhart Sheriff’s Deputy was headed east on CR 6, attempting to make a traffic stop on a vehicle. At that time, a red motorcycle passed him traveling west on CR 6. The officer’s radar showed that the motorcycle was traveling 97 MPH in a 45 MPH zone.

The officer turned around to attempt to stop the motorcycle when the motorcycle collided with the rear of a white Chevy Impala that was stopped at a red light. No injuries were reported in the vehicle.

The driver of the motorcycle was identified as Michael Nunez, 33, of Elkhart. He was ejected from his motorcycle and sustained serious injuries. He was transported to the hospital and his current condition is not known at this time.

The Sheriff’s Department is investigating the crash. They say speed is a factor, and the possibility of alcohol is being looked into.
