Niles man dies in head-on crash on US 12

CASS COUNTY, Mich. -- A man died in a head-on crash on US 12 in Cass County Friday morning.

It happened at US 12 and Bell Road in Milton Township at 8:10 a.m.

According to a Michigan State Police release, a Pontiac Sunfire driven by 24-year-old Ray Marshall, of Niles, was traveling north west on US 12.

Patrick Hollis, 43, also of Niles, was driving south east on US 12 in a Honda Fit.

One of the vehicles crossed the center line and the two collided, police say.

Hollis was taken to Lakeland Hospital in Niles and declared dead as a result of his injuries. He was not wearing a seat belt, police say.

Marshall was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Cass County Sheriff’s Department, Niles Township Fire Department and SMCAS Medical service assisted on scene.
The accident remains under investigation.
