HARTFORD TOWNSHIP, MI - A 13-year-old girl was reported missing July 7 in Florida by the Polk County Sheriff's Office.
The missing female had been entered as a missing person into the National Crime Information Center (NCIC), which is a National Database for law enforcement personnel. It was reported that she was possibly with a 23 year old male suspect.
The Polk County Sheriff's Office had obtained information that the missing juvenile may be at a residence located in the 66000 Block of 48th Avenue, in Hartford Township. After obtaining the information Deputies with the Van Buren County Sheriff's Office went to the residence located in the 66000 Block of 48th Avenue and conducted an investigation. The home was subsequently searched with assistance from the Covert Township Police Department as well as the Pokagon Tribal Police Department.
The search of the home revealed the missing 13 year old child. The 23-year-old male suspect was found hiding inside the residence by law enforcement officers.
During the investigation it was discovered that the suspect, Aurelio Hernandez-Gomez, had allegedly sexually assaulted the 13-year-old juvenile, while at the Hartford Township Home.
Deputies reported that Gomez told them that he entered the United States illegally and that he had come from Chiapas, Mexico.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) was contacted regarding the investigation.
Gomez was arrested for CSC and he was transported to the Van Buren County Jail, in Paw Paw, Michigan.
Deputies were able to make contact with the Polk County Sheriff's Office Missing Person's Unit and advised them that the juvenile was located with the suspect. Children's Protective Services, in Michigan, took protective custody of the 13 year old child following the investigation. Arrangement's will be made to reunite the victim with her parents in Florida.
