South Bend fire crews responded to a two-story vacant house fire Saturday night.

It happened in the 1600 block of William Street around 9:30 p.m.

When firefighters arrived on the scene, they originally did not see flames. Further investigation found a relatively small fire in the back of the home.

The fire is believed to have started in the rear of the home, in a northeast room. It was put out quickly.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Damage to the building is estimated at $1,000.
