Federal hearing to determine fate of Palisades Nuclear Power Plant

By  |

VAN BUREN COUNTY A federal hearing will determine the fate of the Palisades Nuclear Power Plant in Van Buren County.

According to our reporting partners at the Herald Palladium, several anti-nuclear activist groups asked for the hearing, claiming that the plant's reactor is too old and at risk of releasing radiation.

The groups want it shut down at the end of next year.

The nuclear regulatory commission will examine evidence provided by those groups.

Entergy Nuclear, the plant's owner, can appeal the hearing.

No timeline has been set at this point in time.
