The Michiana Chapter of the American Heart Association is having a number of events throughout the month of February, which is American Heart Month.
Volunteers for the American Heart Association are celebrating American Heart Month by knitting red hats for all babies born in February at participating hospitals. The idea is to raise awareness of heart disease, the number one killer of Americans, and congenital heart defects, the most common type of birth defect in the country.
For the next three weeks, Martin's Supermarket will be taking donations on behalf of the American Heart Association. At checkout, customers can donate a dollar and receive a red dress pin in support of heart health awareness.
On February 25 is the Go Red for Women Luncheon in Elkhart at the Lerner Crystal Ballroom, which includes an interactive doctor panel and a fashion show.
Finally, Friday Feb 5 is Wear Red Day. Everyone is encouraged to wear red to increase awareness of heart disease in women.
