Brickyard Crossing assistant golf pro John DalCorobbo will be sporting an Indy 500 shirt at the Senior PGA Championship Sunday in Benton Harbor as the 100th running of the Indy 500 takes place in his hometown of Speedway, Indiana.
Why is he at the Senior PGA Championship instead of the Indy 500? Well that's because he is playing in the Senior PGA.
The Senior PGA Championship reserves a certain number of spots for golf pros and DalCorobbo is among the best. He won the Senior PGA Professional in October to top the club pro qualifiers.
But he isn't just playing Sunday. DalCorobbo is in 3rd place at 11-under par just three strokes back of leader Rocco Mediate heading into the final round.
"It's just great," DalCorobbo said after shooting a 2-under 69 Saturday. "To have a lot of friends and family here, my wife and my kids an all of friends from back home, It's really special."
DalCorobbo will now look to shock the world on Indy 500 Sunday and stay in contention to win the Senior PGA Championship.
"I get to wear a pretty cool shirt Sunday," DalCorobbo said. "I get to wear the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500. When my boss gave me that shirt he said, 'hey DC this is what you get to wear Sunday up at Benton Harbor' and I was like, 'yeah this is a good one.' I've had that shirt ready. It's coming out Sunday and it will be fun."
DalCorobbo will tee of at 1:21pm Sunday in the 2nd to last group with Tom Lehman.
