Last Monday, the South Bend East Side 10U All-Stars won the Ohio Valley Regional Championship and advanced to the Cal Ripken World Series in Vincennes, Indiana.
It's an opportunity of a lifetime for these kids, and they celebrated Sunday with a wiffleball tournament and fundraiser ahead of their trip to Vincennes.
After all the work they've put in this season, they're excited for this chance to play for a Cal Ripken World Series title.
"Well it's just great to be a part of the team," East Side pitcher Pierson Sult, 10, said. "We won regionals, obviously, and we look forward to going to Vincennes, Indiana to play."
"These boys all love baseball," East Side 10U coach Franco Biffle said. "These are the kids that love baseball. They're not just out here because their parents or moms want them out here, these kids love baseball. I call them park babies for a reason. They're going to be here from sun up to sun down playing baseball someway, somehow. They deserve it."
The tournament runs August 2nd-11th in Vincennes.
There is a GoFundMe page set up for the team, to help pay for travel and lodging expenses. If you would like to donate, click here.
