SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WNDU) - The South Bend Cubs took the field at Four Winds field for the first time Tuesday afternoon.
The team arrived back from spring training on Monday, and it'll be a different look for the Cubs this season, with longtime minor league manager Buddy Bailey taking over as the club's skipper.
The team itself is only returning six members of the 2018 team, with two of the Cubs’ Top 5 prospects suiting up as well.
A new season brings all sorts of emotions, but the team is mostly excited to get things going.
“I'm excited to get here,” South Bend Cubs manager Buddy Bailey said. “I like the players, getting ready to start a new season. Everybody starts at .000 teamwise, statwise. A lot of these guys have big dreams and big ambitions to put up big numbers.”
“This team is unbelievable and the talent that we have in our whole organization,” South Bend Cubs outfielder Cole Roederer said. “I think the team itself from the South Bend Cubs just comes from a very good line of players. I think this team is going to help me play up to my potential and do what I can do.”
The South Bend Cubs season gets underway Thursday night as the team takes on West Michigan at 7 p.m.
