South Bend St. Joe alum and Western Michigan senior-to-be golfer Anna Wilcoxson is fired up to play in her hometown this week as the Four Winds Invitational tees off Friday at Blackthorn Golf Course in South Bend.

"It's really incredible," says Wilcoxson, who will play as a amateur thanks to a sponsor's exemption. "I'm really excited to see all my family and friends out here watching and the community and be able to represent them to the best of my abilities and it's going to be a great honor this weekend."

Wilcoxson grew up playing at Blackthorn and has played the course a ton over the last few months preparing for this event, which is part of the Symetra Tour---known as the "Road to the LPGA."

"It's been a great advantage," Wilcoxson says of being able to play a number of times at Blackthorn over the last month. "These other girls are just coming in this week so they are just seeing maybe today or tomorrow but I've been able to see it my whole life. It's giving me a pretty good advantage because I know the ins and outs of the course pretty well."

But Wednesday was Anna's first time back on the course in more than a week after a battle with strep throat.

"I was pretty nervous," Wilcoxson said about the battle with the illness. "I took a lot of medication to get over it. I went to the doctor and told them I had to play this week and it wasn't an option so i took some antibiotics and now I'm feeling better and ready to get out there and show people what I got."

Now she's healthy and eager make a name for himself this week.

"I definitely want to make the cut for one," she explained. "Then from there I want to make the top 10 or potentially win. I have my sights set really high and I'm just really excited to see what I can do against these amazing women."

The Symetra Tour event begins Friday morning at Blackthorn and runs through Sunday. It is free and open to the public. Wilcoxson will tee off at 12:53pm on Friday.
